Croatia

by

We gotta get out of beautiful peaceful Croatia before the 2 million Italian vacationer invasion.  But we are waiting for the 20,000 teen withdrawal from Medjugorje.  Timing is everything.

We have tried to slow down to the nice easy pace of island living, where the price of a ferry equals the price of a cappuchino.  While Bob waited for his cup I said ( as any Chicagoan would) “Is she out picking the coffee beans”.  Bob replied, “No shes planting them”.

We love bus riding.  We love people watching…Women taking up two seats sleeping. (Ive done that.  ooops, Hooligan teens giving up their seats for old women (not me!)  Tourists using seats for their packs.  Locals glaring and breathing down their necks to shape up or ship out.  With the exception of the Jurjovecs, the Croatians tend to be curt, brusk, and no nonscense.  A typical response would be like the one from the information agent saying, “What, do you expect me to know everything!”.  Our Archie Bunker bus drivers scolded us for not knowing the difference between a Kuna, a Marc, and a Euro.  I think he called us a moron, but I cant be sure.

Medjugorje is a spiritual place where hundreds of people are contuinually singing and praying and chanting as they hike up Apparition Hill and Cross Mountain, many of them barefoot.  There is still discontent from the war by locals.  Kathy and Luke told us of many troubles there.  Thousands of refugees lived there during the war since the chance of being bombed was slim (since the church is world renowned.)  So please pray for peace and justice.

We have no plans after Croatia.  Do you have and comments, ideas, advice or news from home?

This is all so interesting. Is this what I get to do next summer? Saw Kristine tonight for dinner and she gave us your blog address. Cindy and I were wondering how you were doing.

Keep taking in the wonderful experiences and scenery. Enjoy every minute my friend!

Your bus driver called you a moron, that is funny. And funny you compared him to Archie Bunker. Oh… so much you have learned from your travels and so happy you are sharing with us, keep it coming. Your continuing wisdom through your exciting travels are very welcoming. I love the photos and your writing Carol, is so cool…

When I first got your blog about your around the world trip, to say the least I didn’t understand what you were doing. I am an old timer, remember. I decided to go on this morning and see what I might be able to figure out and I really enjoyed the pictures and your writing Carol. I understand the going by the seat of your pants thing because that’s how your Uncle Dick and I saw 8 countries in Europe and that is the way it is the most fun. Such a fun thing you are doing and things you will never, never forget.
